| Delerium - The
most successful project of prolific techno-heads, Rhys Fulber and Bill
Leeb. Early Delerium is rife with darkness, creepy sounds and Gothic overtones;
the latest Delerium (Semantic Spaces and the wildly popular Karma) is
much lighter fare. Still utilizing sampled sounds of Gregorian and Aboriginal
chants, pounding percussion and soaring electronics, but now blended with
the entrancing vocals of some of the most popular women in music today:
Kristy Thirsk, Sarah McLachlan and others. |
Delerium
- Duende (CD - Single) - From the newest release,
Karma, this CD single is a good introduction to Delerium. The album version
of "Duende" provides a glimpse of the album Karma, and the two re-mixes
are reminiscent of older, darker Delerium.
Delerium
- Karma - Their newest full length release,
a true masterpiece (IMHO), showcasing what Delerium has always done best:
the layering of haunting melodies, trance percussions, found sounds and
(starting with their last release, "Semantic Spaces") the enchanting voices
of some of alternative pop music's leading ladies.
Delerium
- Euphoric - Short work, 4 songs totaling about
40 minutes of music, Euphoric is invigorating. Infusing some upbeat, danceable
rhythms into the standard synth swirls and creepy effects. Euphoric is
not standard Delerium fare, but still good fun.
Delerium
- Syrophenikan - Early work by Leeb and Fulber,
dark and dripping with tribal beats and the religious and warrior chants
of tribesman, Syrophenikan is a classic.
Delerium
- Spiritual Archives - Another work along the
lines of Syrophenikan, with less emphasis on chants and more on creepy
found sounds and electronica. |
| Synaesthesia
- Another project of Leeb and Fulber (see Delerium
above, and FLA below) Synaethesia might just defy description. Trance
drum beats, found sounds and a variety of instruments carve out these
aural landscapes. |

hard to believe one man could turn out the body of work that is Aphex
Twin...disparate styles from hard-core industrial to funk, thundering
percussions to delicate melodies, white noise and visceral findings...meet
Aphex Twin, you'll either love it or hate. |

| Skinny Puppy -
Now defunct, there is no denying the impact that Skinny Puppy had on the
Industrial genre. Though they have been accused of sinking into metal
clichés with their use of guitars, their early work stands out
as seminal Industrial, and their Vivi Sect VI is still considered one
of the best of the genre. Sadly, "The Process" was the last new work by
Skinny Puppy... the band's breakup hastened by internal difficulties and
the untimely death of Dwayne Rudolph Goetel. |

| Nine Inch Nails -
Like it or not, Trent Reznor brought Industrial into the main stream.
Sure, there are people who will insist that it "is not Industrial" but
that's for people who really care about their labels. For me, NIN is just
music (thought there are those who would deny even that!), creative, obnoxious,
moving and incredibly threatening to the meek and closed-minded. |

| Ministry -
First conceived as a joke by college student Alan Jourgensen, Ministry
has grown into one of the biggest industrial bands around. Though their
later addition of guitars to their sound alienated many Industrial purists,
they are still a giant in the genre. In my opinion their creativity peaked
with "The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste", "Psalm 69" was a best seller
for them, but "Filth Pig" was not well received. They are supposed to
be working on a new recording, and there will, in the words of Paul Barker
long time Ministry member, never be another "Filth Pig". |

the original project of Leeb and Fulber (see Delerium and Synaesthesia
above), FLA has a worldwide cult following. You'll find all the elements
here: deafening percussion, bass hums and soaring synths, found sounds
and electronic noise....all wrapped together by the techno-apocalyptic
visions of Bill Leeb. |

Nitzer Ebb -
Another seminal Industrial act, now defunct (I believe), Nitzer Ebb certainly
covers the gamut of Industrial with metal guitars, funky bass departures
and unashamed dance tracks.

Stabbing Westward -
Brash, uncompromising new comers; the new breed of Industrial popularized
by NIN and Ministry with scorching guitars backed by the thundering percussion
and high speed bass of the original Industrial.
